Chicago's DuSable Museum of African American History has a new name.
After more than 60 years, the facility will now be known as the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center.
In a press release, museum officials wrote that the new name recognizes “the global connections and cultures of Black people across the diaspora.”
The rebranding also included a new, modern logo, and a nickname: “The Du.”
Over the weekend, the museum offered free admission to museum guests and held a Juneteenth BBQ and Block Party, which was co-hosted by Chicago’s Chance the Rapper.
Officials said the decision is part of an effort to reaffirm DuSable’s commitment to educating people about Black history, culture, and experience.
The South Side space is one of the first independently operated Black history museums in the country.
