(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago now has a Tulip to call its very own.
Officials on Wednesday christened a garden of "Magnificent Mile Tulips," a unique hybrid tulip that's blooming for the first time this spring in Chicago.
“We celebrate a delightful confluence of Dutch heritage and indominable spirit of Chicago by introducing this special and unique tulip to the city and beyond,” said Bart Twaalfhoven, consul general of the Netherlands in Chicago.
He signed a document to make it official as a crowd of flower lovers looked on in the 600 block of North Michigan Avenue.
The tulips – with rich yellow petals and a tangerine blush -- were baptized with champagne.
