CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An elected Chicago School Board could come sooner than planned.
Two plans have been proposed that would speed up the process.
The first proposal from Illinois Senate President Don Harmon, would have all members of a new 20-member school board elected in November of next year.
The current plan, under a 2021 state law, is to have half the board members appointed by the mayor and half elected in 2025 and then in all elected in 2027.
State Rep. Ann Williams has a new plan of her own- moving to electing 10 board members next year and the others in 2026.
This comes as the focus in Springfield has been the drawing of new maps for the school board member districts.
