CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Jury selection started today for the trial of the man who prosecutors said shot and killed a Chicago police officer.

Many Chicago Police officers are expected to attend the trial of 23-year-old Emonte Morgan. He was charged for the 2021 murder of 29-year-old CPD Officer Ella French. It happened in Englewood during a traffic stop.

Prosecutors said Amonte and his brother Eric Morgan were pulled over for expired tags, and, when asked to exit the car, Emonte Morgan shot French and her partner Carlos Yanez Jr. multiple times.  French was taken to the hospital where she later died. Yanez was left paralyzed.

Emonte Morgan faces first-degree murder and other felony charges.

Eric Morgan pleaded guilty to his charges in October and was sentenced to seven years in prison.

At Emonte Morgan’s trial, prosecutors are set to show jurors body camera footage of the shooting.
