(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Chicago Public Schools’ takeover of Urban Prep Academy has been dealt a setback after a state court on Friday granted the troubled charter school a brief reprieve in court.
An appellate court has granted a temporary restraining order until a lawsuit is resolved that seeks to stop the CPS decision to revoke Urban Prep’s charter.
A CPS spokeswoman says they’re disappointed by the decision and are looking to bring this to a final conclusion as soon as possible in what they say is in the best interest of students.
Urban Prep officials say they hope the ruling will stop what it calls CPS’ unfounded attacks. They say they look forward to continuing the tradition of educating Black boys and young men in Chicago.
