(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An Evanston man has been charged in the shooting earlier this month at Clark Street Beach, in which an 18-year-old was killed and two 15-year-olds were wounded, Evanston police announced.
The shooting happened on April 12 just after 8 p.m. Police said officers responded to a call of shots fired and found the three shooting victims. Jacquis Irby, the 18-year-old, was declared dead at the scene. The two 15-year-olds survived their injuries.
Authorities said the initial investigation revealed that there were two small groups of people who got into a verbal altercation outside of the entrance to Clark Street Beach. That altercation escalated when at least one person fired into the group — and striking the three teenagers.
Police said the offenders fled the scene.
On Saturday, Evanston police arrested Jalen Murray, 20, for the shooting. Investigators accused Murray of firing a gun during the argument that resulted in Irby’s death. Murray was charged with first degree murder, as well as two counts of attempted first degree murder.
The investigation remains ongoing.
