(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Investigators in Lake County have charged two Waukegan men in what officials described as a murder-for-hire scheme that resulted in the death of a North Chicago woman on Friday.
Authorities said the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force and the North Chicago Police Department arrested 35-year-old Seferino Calihua-Rodriguez and 26-year-old Misael Chavarin-Plazola on Saturday.
Calihua-Rodriguez had a previous relationship with the victim, whose identity won’t be released until the Lake County Coroner’s Office is able to notify her next of kin. Investigators said after that relationship ended, Calihua-Rodriguez hired Chavarin-Plazola to kill her.
Officials said Chavarin-Plazola followed through on the act Friday night. They accused him of attempting to kill another person — who was entering a vehicle with the victim — but his shots missed.
Chavarin-Plazola was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. Calihua-Rodriguez was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, solicitation of murder for hire and attempted first-degree murder.
Both men were due in court Monday.
