(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Several people are recovering after a crash and fire in south suburban Glenwood yesterday.

A white sports car hit an SUV near Glenwood Dyer Road and Minerva at around 2 p.m. according to witnesses who say the say the car then caught fire. Robert Luzcak told CBS 2 he sprang to action after the crash.

"Heard the big bang, saw the flames and called 911 right away as I was running over to see if I can help the guy out and then I came back to my wife," he said. "I grabbed the fire extinguisher, so I can at least get the fire down, so we can get the guy out and that's what we did."

The station reported that a family of five was in the SUV. Several of them and the driver of the car were taken to the hospital. Witnesses said that stretch of road attracts a lot of speeding cars.
