ELGIN, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A suspected DUI driver struck an Illinois State Police squad car Friday on I55 in DuPage County.
An ISP officer was on a routine traffic stop around 9:00 p.m. and was stationary at Lemont Road with emergency lights activated.
According to ISP, a Dodge Ram struck the rear passenger side of his squad car. The 34-year-old driver of the Dodge was then arrested for Driving under the Influence and cited for a violation of Scott's Law along with other traffic violations.
No one was injured but ISP said that this is the 111th violation of Scott's Law involving a state police squad car this year. The law requires that when drivers approach an emergency vehicle or any vehicle with their emergency or hazard lights activated to slow down and move over.
“ISP Troopers work hard to protect the motoring public on Illinois roadways. We need the public to avoid putting their lives at risk by making responsible choices when behind the wheel," Commander Captain Linda Mandat said in a statement.
