(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The family of an ex-Marine from Chicago says it intends to sue the Boston nightspot whose bouncer is charged with killing him nearly two weeks ago.
Twenty-three-year-old Daniel Martinez was stabbed to death earlier this month after a Sons of Boston bar bouncer allegedly chased him.
Lawyer Tom Flaws says the Martinez family has questions and plans to sue the bar to get answers.
“We intend to learn everything Sons of Boston did in hiring the man who stabbed Daniel. Did they look into his background? Did they train him? Did they, as the city of Boston says, allow him to work the door with a weapon?”
Martinez’s wake and funeral are Friday and Saturday at his family’s funeral home.
His father, Manuel “Manny” Martinez, said the family is talking about starting a foundation in Daniel’s name to keep his legacy alive by carrying out the family’s good works.
“Going down to Wacker Drive and feeding the homeless. Going out to senior citizen homes and giving the seniors a good time, bringing them entertainment and food,” he said.
Martinez said his son had thought about studying film production and was looking into buying a house.
Martinez’ brother, Matthew, drove him to the airport for the trip to Boston.
“One of our last conversations, he had just shown me, most lists of houses that his Realtor had sent him and I told him we’ll take a look when he gets back,” he said.
Manny Martinez said his family’s faith in God consoles them.
