(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Striking actors and writers unions marched in downtown Chicago Thursday.
Members of SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America and continue striking over changes to the entertainment industry that they say have not been reflected in their contracts.
The two separate unions -- on strike simultaneously for the first time in 63 years – demand greater residuals from streaming and controls on the use of artificial intelligence in production.
SAG-AFTRA member and Strike Captain Courtney Rioux said if studios eliminate the need for background actors by scanning their likeness for future use, it would have a direct impact on other industries.
A number of non-entertainment focused unions joined the solidarity walk from Millennium Park to Buckingham Fountain. They included the Chicago Federation of Labor and SEIU.
(Editor's note: Many employees of WBBM Newsradio, including anchors and reporters, are members of SAG-AFTRA; they work under a different contract from the entertainment industry professionals)
