CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - On the eve of the NASCAR race weekend, you really want to stay away from the Grant Park area if you’re driving.

Each day this week we’ve reported on new closures in and around Grant Park, and this evening and overnight the final closures go into effect.

Southbound Michigan Avenue will be shut down starting at 5 p.m. between Balbo and Jackson.

The northbound lanes are already closed.

Early tomorrow, DuSable Lake Shore Drive will be closed in both directions,  between Randolph and McFetridge.

Southbound is already closed.

Public transportation is recommended as well as avoiding the Grant Park area.

Barring a weather event that pushes the race into Monday, The city says streets will start to reopen Sunday night with DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive.
