'All in for the win': First drawings for Illinois vaccine lottery begin Thursday

COVID-19 vaccine and money

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- You could be a million dollars richer Thursday, and you don’t have to buy a lottery ticket. If you’ve had a COVID vaccine in Illinois, you’re eligible to win, and not just Thursday.

Let’s face it. You were a winner when that first COVID vaccine shot went into your arm. Nearly 70 percent of Illinoisans 12 years old and older have received at least one vaccine.

Now, the state is kicking off its lottery drawings to get more people vaccinated. Illinois’ new $10 million ‘All In for the Win’ vaccine lottery kicks off Thursday with the first draw that will reward one vaccinated Illinoisan with $1 million and three vaccinated Illinois youth with $150,000 scholarships.

Then, between Thursday and the end of August, $7 million in cash prizes will be doled out to vaccinated adults, ranging from $100,000 to $1 million, and $3 million in college scholarships will be given to vaccinated children. In total, there will be 43 cash prizes, including $3 million jackpots and 20 scholarship awards.

Three $100,000 cash prize winners each will be drawn July 12, July 19, July 26, Aug. 2, Aug. 9 and Aug. 16. Additionally, 22 $100,000 cash prize winners will be drawn Aug. 12 and two $1 million cash prize winners will be drawn Aug. 26. Seventeen $150,000 scholarship winners will be drawn Aug. 26.

You must have had your shot a week before each drawing to be entered automatically. There are no sign ups, no forms, and no waiting lines. The Illinois Department of Public Health will continue to check their records before each drawing. Once entered, residents remain eligible in all future drawings, unless they win.

The state will notify winners by calling them and emailing them. IDPH will call from 312-814-3524 and or email from DPH.communications@illinois.gov. Note: Winners have just one week to claim their prizes.

Winners will be announced eight days after each draw unless they choose to remain anonymous.

The lottery is funded by federal COVID-19 relief money.
