Online forum to connect high school students with manufacturing businesses

Manufacturing jobs

ELGIN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A regional vocational organization representing school districts in Kane County is hosting a forum next week with manufacturers with the goal of solving their staffing needs and putting more high school graduates on career paths.

The Director of the Northern Kane County Regional Vocation System, Terry Stroh, is partnering with Elgin Community College and the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce for this event, bringing educators and businesses together.

They’re especially looking to connect high school students with manufacturers.

“We’re reaching out to businesses in the area, to have those businesses come in and listen to how we can partner together. Those partnerships can range anywhere from having people come in and be guest speakers in the classroom, to having students come out and do job shadows for a couple hours, to having internships or apprenticeships for a longer period of time," Stroh said.

The forum will be held online next Tuesday, June 15 from 11 a.m. until noon.

Stroh said he's heard from many businesses that are hiring right now. This is an opportunity for them to get the next generation of skilled workers in the door.
