CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chinatown residents gathered last night for a vigil following the shooting death of a 71-year-old man.
The murder of Woom Sing Tse-shot to death while walking to get a newspaper early on Tuesday afternoon remains a mystery. The crime was caught on surveillance video.
Tse's friends and family came together to remember him Friday night despite the rain.
“We are incredibly heartbroken over this horrific tragedy, and the grief has been immense,” a man said at the vigil.
Tse's children said he was very dedicated to his family. “And even on his last day, here, he was watching my firstborn,” said daughter Carina Tse as reported by CBS 2.
The motive of the murder is still not known. A 23-year-old man, identified as Alphonso Joyner, is alleged to have fired nearly two dozen shots, some from a car and some as the man was down on the sidewalk.
Chicago Police commander Don Jerome also spoke at the vigil, according to CBS 2.
“I just want everybody to know that we are absolutely committed to safety in Chinatown,” he said.
