(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — About $16,000 has been raised on-line for the medical care of a 3-month-old boy who was shot along with his father in Little Village last Saturday.

The GoFundMe page, titled, “Help Jeremiah Heal From Gun Violence,” says “we are facing a devastating crisis.”

His mother wrote, “Jeremiah is currently in the hospital undergoing intensive medical treatment. The road to recovery will be long and challenging, requiring multiple surgeries, continuous medical care, and therapy.

“The mounting medical bills and related expenses will become overwhelming.”

She started the page with a goal of $10,000. She wrote that they don’t want to go back to Little Village.

The baby was shot in the chest. His 21-year-old father was hit in the arm and shoulder.

It happened on Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of a Walgreens.

The infant and the 21-year-old man were in a car just after 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Little Village Plaza in the 3100 block of West 26th Street when a car pulled up, two people got out and started shooting, Chicago police said.

Donations for the family can be made on the GoFundMe page here.
