CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The parents of Glenn Foster, who played football at Mount Carmel High School, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and for the New Orleans Saints, said they want answers and justice after he died in a jail cell in Alabama.
Foster’s father, Glenn Foster Sr., said he wants justice.
“It’s unfair. It’s inhumane. It’s just not right,” he said.
Foster’s mother added, “We want whoever is responsible to pay for this.”
Illinois state Rep. Kam Buckner played football with Foster at the U of I.
“And we’ve seen cases before that appear quite like this and to think no matter happened he took his last breaths maybe in a police cell by himself is really disheartening and is problematic,” Buckner said to CBS 4 in New Orleans.
Glenn Foster died in custody in Reform, Alabama, two days after he was arrested. He crashed after a police pursuit for alleged speeding.
And was reported to have been involved in a fight with another detainee and two jail guards.
His parents said it appeared he was having a mental breakdown and believe medical assistance may have been denied. The cause of death has not been released.
