(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The earliest sunset of the year is happening today, even if it’s not the shortest day of the year.
Today’s sunset was expected at 4:19 p.m. But we’ll see an incremental increase in the sunset time after that, not too noticeably, according to Accuweather meteorologist Dean DeVore.
“The sunsets get a little bit later. It’s just only by a couple of seconds, but the sunrises are getting later by about a minute still ‘til we get to that day, Dec. 21, which is the solstice. So, that’s the lowest sun angle. It’s also the shortest daylight hours,” DeVore said.
Sunrise was at 7:05 today. By the 21st, the sunrise will be at 7:14 in the morning while the sunset moves to 4:22 in the afternoon.
