(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Gov. JB Pritzker is defending his support of Israel in its battle against Hamas.
Pritzker, who is Jewish, earlier this week addressed questions about whether he has done enough for Palestinian Americans since the Israel-Hamas war erupted earlier this month.
“I would do anything to protect our Palestinian and Muslim communities in Illinois, as I would the Jewish community and everyone else in the state,” the governor said Thursday.
He said there are many peace-loving Palestinians, but he defended his support for U.S. ally Israel and that nation’s efforts to deal with terrorism.
“We’ve got to make sure that we’re assisting our ally in going after those terrorists,” he said.
The Israel-Hamas war has been polarizing for some communities because of the Palestinian civilians who live in Gaza. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators have marched in Chicago demanding a cease-fire to fighting in Gaza.
President Biden visited Israel this week to show support but stressed the importance of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza. Both he and Pritzker condemned the hate-crime murder of a 6-year-old Palestinian American boy last weekend in Will County.
