Governor Pritzker says he’s happy to see the Bears racking up victories on the field, but that won’t impact their quest for a new stadium off of it.

The Governor was asked about the stadium situation during a sit-down with the Economic Club of Chicago, during which he stressed that his focus is on the taxpayers of Illinois, not the Monsters of the Midway.

“We should help private and public businesses grow in the state of Illinois. What I’m not for is that we’re responsible for building your factory or your new headquarters. We’re not.”

He also expressed his desire for the Bears to stay in Chicago, but said that as a private, and as he put it, wealthy business, the decision is theirs.

“The taxpayers should not be left on the hook for the debt that came from building Soldier Field.”
