Handicapped parking rates expected to increase in Berwyn

Handicapped parking

BERWYN, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- People who have or want to have residential parking zones outside their homes in Berwyn may soon have to pay more for them.

Berwyn Mayor Robert Lovero at first vetoed an ordinance that City Council vote in favor of to increase rates for people who have handicapped parking zones in front of their homes. He said the rates would punish the people who are the most vulnerable in the western suburb.

A couple of weeks later, according to My Suburban Life, the mayor withdrew his veto and sent the increase matter back to committee for re-evaluation. The Berwyn city clerk now said the ordinance is listed as “passed”.

Under the ordinance, application rates for handicapped parking spaces would rise from $10 to $20, with yearly renewal fees going from $10 to $25. There would also be a $55 signage fee. Before, no fee was charged to have a sign put up.
