Pi Day is celebrated on March 14, or 3/14, around the world. Pi, which is approximately 3.14159, is the symbol used in mathematics to represent the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi Day is the perfect excuse to celebrate math — and dessert.
“It’s definitely one of our busiest days of the year,” said Michael Ciapciak, owner of Bang Bang Pie.

The local pie shop in Logan Square created a special Pi(e) Day menu including Sundae, Puppy Chow, Peanut Butter Crunch, Matcha Cheesecake and more.
“We expect to see a couple thousand people here grabbing slices, enjoying lunch, and grabbing pies to celebrate,” said Ciapciak.
The small shop was flooded with customers packed from corner to corner and had a line outside the door with eager pie lovers.

“It’s a really nice local shop; they have phenomenal flavors,” said customer Joseph Bronerky.
The phenomenon surrounding Pi Day seems as infinite as its digits. Today also marks Albert Einstein's birthday and the anniversary of Stephen Hawking's death. Whether you’re a math enthusiast or just very passionate about sweets, Happy Pi day.
