(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The search was still on for Hennessy, a day after the social media-famous cat leapt out of a fifth-floor window to escape a burning apartment in Englewood.

“It flew, and then landed and went that way,” one woman said Friday.

Neighbors watched Hennessy’s dramatic leap, which was caught on video by Chicago Fire Department Spokesman Larry Langford. The cat peeked out, readied its jump and then swan-dived gracefully — landing on a strip of grass, bouncing once and walking away near 65th and Lowe.

Unfortunately, the house cat was still unaccounted for Friday. Neighbors were still on the hunt when WBBM Newsradio’s Steve Miller stopped by in the early evening.

He was told Hennessy is a girl by her owner’s neighbor, Monsconie Feemster. Feemster said the cat was seen earlier in the day.

“My neighbor, Mr. John, … he said he seen the cat this morning on his way to work. He said it was up under one of these cars down here,” the resident said.

“I’m hoping I do get a chance to see it, by any chance, because I know Hennessy will come to me.”

The Good Samaritan yelled: “Hennessy!  Hennessy!”
