(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Thornton Township Supervisor Tiffany Henyard has filed a lawsuit against the Thornton Township Democrats after they orchestrated what she calls "a hostile takeover."
"I do not like dictatorship. I do not like a hostile takeover,” Henyard said.
Her suit alleges just that, a hostile takeover illegally orchestrated by Democratic Committeeman and State Senator Napoleon Harris.
He said he was exercising his right to hold a rare caucus to determine who would be on the ballot, instead of a primary.
It was a raucous event.
Harris was chosen as the candidate for township supervisor.
Henyard was livid.
"You didn't run none of this the right way. Illegal, Napoleon,” she said.
Her lawsuit notes that Harris hosted an event at the packed venue before the caucus.
His supporters remained. Many of Henyard’s supporters were left out in the cold, unable to get in.
Attorneys on both sides have differing opinions about the legality.
