(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Highland Park man under investigation in the death of a man at the Fort Sheridan Preserve last month is now facing arson charges tied to a fire in Lake Forest.

Nicholas Caban, 20, is being held on $100,000 bond on the arson allegation, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.

Caban is one of two men investigators said were involved in a confrontation on Sept. 17 that led to the death of Matthew Asciridis.

Police said the 45-year-old confronted Caban and 18-year-old Jacob Firestone because they were being too loud. Shortly after that incident, the sheriff’s office said Caban was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm without a serial number.

Caban, who was able to post bail for his firearm charge, was arrested again after Lake Forest firefighters responded to a trailer fire at Lou’s Garage near Skokie Valley Road and Old Elm Road.

According to the sheriff’s office, Caban was seen leaving the trailer and was picked up by Highland Park police.

Officers said that Caban refused to answer questions and was found with a knife and a bottle of vodka, and they added that he showed signs of alcohol impairment.

Caban is due back in court Wednesday morning.
