HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The District 113 School Board heard from parents Tuesday night for the second time following an incident earlier this month when a student brought a gun to the high school.

One parent, Suzi Wahl, tore up a pamphlet in front of the board members.

"You spent $29,200 per student of our money. How is it that they're not protected? How is my daughter not protected," she asked.

"Whatever security measures you claim to have had on April 4 failed."

To some parents, heightened security measures means bringing in armed guards and metal detectors.

Another parent, Jenny Harjung said she walked into the school and no one checked her purse.

"Who's to say that that I didn't have 234 guns inside? It's a really big purse," she said.

"I can fit a lot in here. Who's to say that I didn't have a pistol strapped to my ankle"

Harjung said the board needs to be proactive. The district is hiring a director of security.
