(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Highland Park’s Ravinia Brewing Company has announced a new name: Steep Ravine Brewing Company, named for the brewery’s flagship craft beer.

The move came after the brewing company was sued by the Ravinia Festival music venue for trademark infringement. The two sides initially came to an agreement that would allow the brewery to keep its name, with some rules.

Then the company opened a taproom in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood, which was seen as a violation of the agreement.

Both sides later said a mutual agreement had been reached. There would be a new name.

Steep Ravine Brewing Company Co-founder Jeff Hoobler said the new name is a nod to their origins in the Ravinia District of Highland Park — and the area’s steep ravines.

Hoobler was elected to the city council in 2023, but he lost the seat due to a Prohibition-era ordinance that prevents council members from holding liquor licenses.
