(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An effort is underway to raise money to move two 19th-century buildings in the northwest suburbs.

The 1850s-era Ruth Barn needs to be moved because of the planned expansion of the Long Grove Village Hall. An old one-room schoolhouse is nearby.

Historian Aaron Underwood said money is being raised to try to move both buildings about a half-mile downtown, where more people can tour them.

“What’s the point of saving the history if you can’t see it?” he said.

Preservationists may know in a couple of weeks whether the finances can be worked out.

The expansion of the village hall – which itself is in a tavern from the mid-1800s -- would likely start in a couple of months

Anyone interested in donating to the preservation project can email: treasurer@longgrovehistory.org.
