Illinois State Police troopers responded to I-57’s right shoulder near 111th Street shortly before 3:50 a.m., officials said. A car was stopped, and a passenger was standing outside it.

That pedestrian was then hit by a car, the driver of which continued traveling northbound.

The victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

All northbound lanes were closed as ISP troopers gathered evidence at the site of the crash. It reopened around 7:45 a.m.
