CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Homewood Village Board has turned down a proposal that would allow a logistics park to be developed on a former golf course, but developers are pushing on.
The Homewood Village Board unanimously rejected four ordinances Tuesday that would have rezoned the former Calumet Country Club property, so it could be turned into a truck and warehouse development at I-80 and Dixie Highway.
But, that does not mean the development will not be built.
The CEO of Diversified Partners, which bought the golf course, told the Tribune he still intends to pursue the plan and bulldoze what is on the private property to make way for the logistics park. Walt Brown Jr. said he plans to have the nearly 130 acres "disconnected quickly" from Homewood.
“We have a settlement agreement in place,” he said. “We’re going to collect our money and move ahead.”
Nearby residents are concerned about increased truck traffic, air pollution, and declining property values.
