CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The day after Mayor Lori Lightfoot declared racism a public health crisis, a local hospitals group is out with a report on racial equity in health care.
The Illinois Health and Hospital Association represents 36 facilities in Chicago and the suburbs that have been working with Mayor Lori Lightfoot to address health care disparities since last year.
The IHA has now released a progress report to give its member hospitals, health centers, and systems guidance in providing better healthcare in underserved communities. It details how well its members are addressing the kinds of inequities in health care that led to African-American and Latin-X communities being disproportionately affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
The report and guidance for the future focus on issues like collaboration among facilities, more accountability, and growth in underserved communities.
The IHA has declared Friday, June 18 Health Equity Action Day and slated activities for its members.
