HUNTLEY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --Today the Parkside Pub in downtown Huntley is celebrating a pre-Thanksgiving tradition that has gone on for four decades: The Turkey Testicle Festival.

Parkside Pub owner JR Westberg wasn’t around when this tradition started on November 23, 1983.

He said the festival has become a multi-generational event to which parents bring their adult children, who are home for Thanksgiving.

"Well the parents are coming for over twenty years ago and others. Their children are 21 and they're able to partake in the activities."

Westberg describes the fun event as “our Superbowl" and said it’s like a reunion.

Those who have never tried a deep-fried turkey testicle are probably wondering about the taste.

"They have a texture of a deep fried mushroom and maybe the taste of a gizzard or something like that," Westberg said.

There are bands playing all day and a large crowd is usually present at the festival as well. The event is open to those who are age 21 and above.
