DES PLAINES (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Grammy-award winning artist collapsed while performing in Des Plaines Sunday afternoon.

The Ides of March were performing their hit song, "Vehicle,” during the Cornerstones of Rock concert when frontman Jim Peterik suddenly fell to the ground.

"I happened to be right there," said Ron Onesti, president and CEO of theater operator Onesti Entertainment. "I jumped right on stage and I was holding his hand and felt cold and clammy, but he was coherent and he did not lose consciousness."

He said Peterik's fall was likely due to heat exhaustion, low blood sugar and dehydration.

While waiting for paramedics, Onesti said the crowd of about 1,000 spectators stood in solidarity.

"I've been doing this for about 40 years and this never happened, the whole place erupted in prayer," Onesti said.

Peterik is reportedly feeling much better and still plans to attend a record release party later this week.
