
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - If you’re heading out of town for the Fourth of July, your road trip just got more expensive.
The state tax on gasoline went up two cents, to 47 cents per gallon.
Diesel users are also paying two cents more.
It’s all due to a state law passed five years ago that set increases based on inflation and the Consumer Price Index to pay for construction projects.
Inflation led the state to pause the hike two years ago.
The Illinois Policy Institute said drivers here pay the second highest gas taxes in the country.
