(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Just days after the U.S. Supreme Court welcomed its first Black woman as a justice, the Illinois Supreme Court followed suit Thursday.

Lisa Holder White of Decatur is a former appellate court judge, public defender and prosecutor.

At her swearing-in ceremony, she said she hopes to inspire others to follow their dreams, as she did.

Holder White was appointed to complete the term of a retiring justice until late 2024.

She has already said she plans to run to keep the seat for another 10 years.
