CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – COVID-19 made it necessary to move some court hearings online, but after two years the Illinois Supreme Court wants to know what has worked well about holding proceedings remotely.

The state supreme court's press release announcing a Remote Proceedings Task Force came two years to the day that it authorized remote hearings and directed courts to hold them for essential and nonessential matters.

Supreme Court Justice David K. Overstreet credited remote hearings for increasing attendance and participation.

A group of 15 judges, administrators, clerks and attorneys is expected to recommend rule changes to the high court.  It has said in the past remote appearances brought on by covid should not be seen as temporary measures.
