(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois has the fifth-highest rate of car thefts in the country, according to a new report.
There were nearly 39,000 cars stolen in Illinois last year, National Insurance Crime Bureau data said. That’s nine out of every 1,000 cars.
carVertical -- a platform that sells vehicle histories -- crunched the numbers that saw Illinois in line with New York but well below Missouri, Washington and Colorado, which led the nation with a rate three times that of Illinois.
There was reportedly a 13% jump in car thefts on average in the 10 highest states.
The most stolen vehicles were pickup trucks made by Chevy and Ford; followed by Honda Civics and Accords and Toyota Camrys.
