(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The leader of the Illinois Republican Party is commending the unity of the Republican Party in the face of the shake up taking place on the Democratic 2024 presidential ticket.

Illinois Republican Party Chair Kathy Salvi says that former President Donald Trump and Ohio Senator JD Vance have been on a roll.

“And why? Because the three and a half years of failed policies have put families, and taxpayers, and businesses, and you know, on a score of different issues, just everybody's feeling the hurt,” Salvi said.

Specifically, Salvi points to failed policies at the border as indication of what she expects to be a poor performance from Vice President Kamala Harris among voters, should she become the Democratic nominee.

“She was the border Czar and we were told for months and months, there was never a problem and look at what's happened. We have no border policy, and families are hurting and businesses are hurting.”

Even if the nominee is not Harris, Salvi is confident in the Republican Party nominees.

“So make no mistake, whoever they choose, if it's Kamala Harris or any other Democrat. The agenda that we've had to live with for the last three and a half years has been overwhelmingly rejected by the American people, which is why I believe the Trump, JD Vance ticket will be victorious this November.”

Salvi is also joining other Republican leaders in calling for President Joe Biden to resign after ending his campaign.

“I'd say with his announcement today, if he's not competent to run for re-election, then he is certainly not competent to remain in the White House.”

Republicans have seized on Biden's poor debate performance last month to batter him as incapable of serving four more years. Now, that he's out of the presidential election, many said he should resign his office, too.

“If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately. November 5 cannot arrive soon enough,” House Speaker Mike Johnson said in a statement.

“If the Democratic party has deemed Joe Biden unfit to run for reelection, he’s certainly unfit to control our nuclear codes. Biden must step down from office immediately,” tweeted Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Minn.
