(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- This year's Illinois State Fair features a "sensory- friendly" area. It's one of two new ways the fair is trying to be more inclusive.

The Illinois State Fair is for everyone, according to fair manager Rebecca Clark.

“One in seven individuals live with a disability,” said Clark. “Those with autism, PTSD, and other sensory-processing sensitivities often experience sensory overload, limiting their ability to comfortably participate in social gatherings.”

A “sensory- friendly” area next to the Emmerson Building is available for the run of the fair.

And this Saturday, the lights won’t be as bright, and the sounds won’t be as loud. This will be for “Sunflower Hours,” 9 a.m.-noon Saturday.

The fair opens Thursday.
