SYCAMORE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Hundreds of teachers showed up at Tuesday night’s school board meeting for Sycamore School District 427 to protest working without a contract. The school district and its teachers union are scheduled to hold negotiations Thursday.

The teachers’ last contract expired at the end of July.

Jake Brens, a spokesman for the Sycamore Education Association, told the DeKalb Daily Chronicle a strike or a walk-out could be next.

Supt. Steven Wilder said he hopes it doesn’t come to that and says the district will honor the old contract as both sides continue to work towards a fair and reasonable agreement as soon as possible.

Neither side would tell the paper what’s on the table.

A librarian at Sycamore High School said the union’s goal is to keep students in school throughout negotiations.
