CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The director of the Illinois Department of Public Health on Thursday chose Aurora as the site to receive her COVID-19 booster shot and highlight the need for such vaccinations.
Dr. Steve Lowenthal, chief medical officer for Rush-Copley Medical Center, was among those who welcomed Dr. Ngozi Ezike to the western suburb.
He applauded the state health director for highlighting booster shots and the need for vaccinations in general.
"The fact is that in the last year or so since a vaccine has been out, well over 90% of the patients who are hospitalized are unvaccinated," Lowenthal said.
Ezike received her COVID-19 booster shot at the state's drive -thru vaccination and testing site on Farnsworth Avenue.
"This is the best way we have of staying ahead of this virus and making sure that everyone has protection and even optimized protection," Ezike said.
Mayor Richard Irvin showed his gratitude by proclaiming this Dr. Ngozi Ezike Day in Aurora.
