(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A renowned police dog with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office appears to be making progress after being injured on the job earlier this month.
Dax, a German Shepherd that has been with the department for about a decade, suffered paralysis of his hind legs after helping to pursue a suspect near Zion.
Although initial reports were not encouraging, the sheriff’s office on Friday shared a promising update on social media with video showing Dax using a treadmill.
“We’re really excited and motivated by some of what we’ve seen in the past few days and him being able to get back up on all four legs again,” Deputy Chief Chris Covelli told WBBM Newsradio.
Dax has received attention for years for helping to apprehend suspects and search for lost people.
