(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A woman has turned her personal journey through motherhood into a social media and publishing enterprise.

Becky Viera is from the San Francisco Bay Area and the mother of a 6-year-old boy.

She told the WBBM Noon Business Hour on Friday that she read a number of books and attended a number of classes before her son was born.

But even with that, she said she said the first year was more challenging than she could have imagined.

"Nothing you do to prepare you is the same as actually doing it, and having that baby in your arms. It's so much harder -- so much better -- but so much harder than anyone explains to you," Viera said.

Like nearly all parents she posted pictures of the baby to social media. One day, she posted an observation about the challenges she was facing.

"I had post-partum depression. I was exhausted, and I shared that on Instagram. The response was overwhelming,” she recalled. “It was very clear that was what other moms were looking for, and it just continued from there.”

Her Instagram account now has 128,000 followers. Now, she has turned her social media thoughts into a book called Enough About the Baby: A Much Needed Guide to New Motherhood.
