CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago police officers are paying tribute to a slain colleague as signs suggest investigators are closing in on the people involved in her shooting last weekend.
The police department today escorted the body of 24-year-old Officer Aréanah Preston from the Cook County Medical Examiner's office to the Blake-Lamb Funeral Home as family members prepared final arrangements.
Numerous reports suggest as many as five people may be in custody in connection with Officer Preston's death after she was shot early Saturday morning outside her home at 81st and Blackstone. Chicago police News Affairs spokespeople reiterated to WBBM Newsradio this afternoon that no one is charged in connection with Preston's death.
No one from CPD or the City is commenting on why it took a half hour from the time of ShotSpotter alert of gunshots fired before an officer was dispatched to the scene of Officer Preston’s shooting.
