JOLIET, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Joliet City Council has approved a plan to give residents of one neighborhood some peace of mind over potential truck traffic down their streets.
The Joliet City Council has approved a truck-turnaround on Rowell Avenue to keep semis going to and from proposed warehouses on Laraway Road from flooding a residential community along Rowell. Mayor Terry D’Arcy said the city is also looking at setting up cameras to deter trucks from going where they shouldn’t.
"It’s our obligation and our duty to make sure that we keep trucks off there and these cameras can do the job of what a police car does without pulling them over," he added.
"What I understand it’s kind of like, if they get a picture of a truck going in a non-truck area, they get a citation photo-enforced."
One council member suggested getting a mobile photo-enforcement system so trucks everywhere in Joliet know that the city means business when it comes to no-truck zones.
