KENOSHA, Wisc. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some Kernosha residents are in mourning following the death of a wild turkey.

Carl, as they called him, became a fixture in Kenosha’s Forest Park neighborhood.

And to 93-year-old Joe Kauzlarich, who’s homebound,  a highlight of his day would be when the turkey would come to drink from a birdbath in his front yard.

“I lost a friend. He came about four months back and we become like friends,” Kauzlarich said, adding Carl “was a friendly little guy.”

He and another neighborhood resident, Wendy Powell, spoke to CBS 58 in Milwaukee about the turkey that some people didn’t care for because he was always confronting cars and displaying his feathers in the middle of the street.

“Anytime he saw like big trucks he would get right in the middle of the road, put all of his feathers up. And he’d do that everyday,” she said.

Carl the Turkey had his own Facebook page and was considered by many to be a welcome diversion.

His page is full of photos and videos and now many heart-felt tributes after he was hit by a car and killed.
