
LAKE COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Department of Justice has awarded a million dollar grant to a north suburban county to help it fight school violence.
The grant was awarded to the Lake County regional office of education.
The money will be used to for people and programs to help prevent school violence with special emphasis on at-risk students.
At- risk students include those who have been referred to online or virtual school settings for disciplinary reasons and students who are a greater risk to hurt themselves or others.
Officials said the money will be used to hire social workers, mental health specialists, violence interrupters, and others who work to prevent school violence.
Lake County has three years to spend the grant.
