CPS investigating last weekend's on field brawl between 2 South Side football teams

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago Public School leaders say they are looking into what triggered a postgame brawl at a weekend high school football game.

The chaos unfolded Saturday night at the North Side’s Lane Stadium, where Kenwood and Morgan Park were squaring off. The game was physical throughout but got out of hand late, as several fights broke out on the field, leaving CPS security and coaches scrambling to get things under control. When it was all said and done nearly 20 players from both South Side high schools were ejected.

Chicago Public Schools issued a statement to WBBM.

“CPS expects all of our student athletes to treat each other with respect. We have spoken at length to school administrators and head coaches about consequences and actions that can be taken moving forward,” a CPS official said.
