The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was investigating two separate crashes in Deerfield and Wadsworth involving stolen cars. In both cases, officers relied on the tracking skills of Dax, a K-9 for the sheriff’s office.
Police said the two car crashes occurred about 23 hours apart, and the sheriff’s office alleged that nine juveniles were connected with stealing the cars.
When police found the crashed vehicles, though, both cars were unoccupied.
That’s when Dax came in.
In the Deerfield incident, Dax tracked away the scene and into a heavily-wooded area, where he found three juveniles hiding. Dax then found the remaining three suspects along the Des Plaines River.
In the Wadsworth case, Dax was tracking for more than a mile until he caught up with the juveniles, who then ran onto a street where a deputy was waiting for them.
All nine individuals were arrested.
“Our Lake County Sheriff’s Officer canine (sic) teams continue to impress every single day,” Lake County Sheriff John Idelburg said in a post on the Lake County Sheriff’s Facebook page.
