COOK COUNTY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Lemont man is the latest to plead guilty in a wide-ranging bribery case involving the Cook County Assessor’s Office.
56-year-old Alex Nitchoff has entered a guilty plea to charges of conspiring to corruptly give something of value to influence and reward a public official as well as using an interstate facility to facilitate bribery.
If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
Prosecutors said between 2016 and 2019 Nitchoff and others provided a Cook County Assessor's Office worker, 45-year-old Lavdim Memisovski of Burbank, with free home improvement services through their construction company. It included concrete padding, decking material, windows and more .
In exchange, Memisovski, who pleaded guilty last year and is awaiting sentencing, is accused of reducing property taxes for Nitchoff by at least $550,000.
A total of seven people are charged in the case, including two other Assessor's Office employees who pleaded not guilty.
